Information Guide To the Alleghany Regional Jail

The Alleghany Regional Jail has established a new way to have visitation with their family and friends.  Below is how visitation will be Conducted:

Off-site Video Visitation:

ON-site Video Visitation:

Visiting hours for ON-SITE ONLY (Alleghany Regional Jail) visits will be:

    • Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday – between the hours of 1 pm – 4:30 pm- and 5:30 pm – 8 pm
    • Saturday – between the hours of 1 pm – 4 pm
    • Sunday – between the hours of 1 pm – 5 pm

There is no Monday or Friday on-site visitation.

All visits will be limited to 15 minutes.

All Inmates having on-site visits will be limited to 5 visitors per week.

CONFIDENTIAL VISITS: Any inmate has the right to a confidential visit with their Attorney and may request the same with the following:

  1. Probation/Parole officer
  2. Social Worker
  3. Minister, Priest, Rabbi
  4. Doctor
  5. Psychiatrist/Psychologist

Such individuals will be required to sign in at the main control room entrance.

Alleghany Regional Jail reserves the right to temporarily suspended video visitation due to security or maintenance issues.

What can I mail to an inmate?

If you are immediate family which is by policy, Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, Grandparents, Spouse, Children, Step Children or Step Parents you may visit as long as your name has been given to the jail staff by the inmate.

Money:  Beginning 08/29/2016, money now will be taken in the lobby 24 hours a day, weekends and holidays included.  You will no longer be able to use the Clerk’s Window in the lobby of the Jail to leave money.  There is a drop box in the lobby for your convenience.  To use the drop box, simply fill out the envelope (provided) put the money in the envelope and place it in the drop box.  You will not get a receipt.  When the money is deposited (the next business day) the person getting the money will get the receipt. The only money acceptable will be cash or money orders.  Personal checks will not be deposited.  You may also put money on an inmate’s account by either contacting Access Service Deposit by telephone or web site.  The phone number is (866) 345-1884 or  www.inmatedeposits.com.  To use this service there is a minimal fee you must pay.

Phone privileges by Inmates: Inmates will have access to the phones daily. Phones will be turned on each morning after housing areas are cleaned by inmates. Phones will be turned off at 11:00 PM each night. All Calls an inmate makes will be charged to the party which he / she is calling, a 10 minute on all calls has been established by the phone system provider. No incoming calls will be accepted and no messages will be given to inmates unless it is an emergency such as death in the family etc. You may also set up an account with the phone provider (Pay-Tel) to receive calls on your cell phone. Pay Tel’s phone number is 1-800-729-8355 or www. Paytell.com. We also sell Phone Cards that the inmate can purchase for $20.00.

Items that can be brought to inmates: The following is the only items that may be brought to an Inmate.

Money: Cash or Money Orders only (no Personal Checks)

Medication: Prescription medication in original container.
(Must be cleared by the jail medical staff)

Clothing: One set of clothing to be worn to Circuit Court Jury Trials only.

Due to the policy and procedures of the Department of Corrections, property will not be accepted for inmate transfers to state facilities.

* Note: Any person attempting to deliver any contraband into the Alleghany Regional Jail shall be charged under code section 18.2-474.
