Congratulations to Cpl. Chris Fisher who received the 2011 award for “Dare Officer of the Year” for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and Regional Jail DARE

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office currently teaches the D.A.R.E. program to all 5th grade students.  This program teaches children the dangers of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use.  This is accomplished by teaching the children how to use a decision making model to make good decisions not only limited to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and violence, but any tough decision they are faced with. Students also receive D.A.R.E. instruction in 8th grade.

The assigned D.A.R.E. officer is Corporal Chris M. Fisher. Chris has been  a certified D.A.R.E. instructor for 3 years.  He is also certified through the Department of Criminal Justice Services as a General Instructor. Sgt. Stan Bush is the 8th grade D.A.R.E. instructor.
